Why Choose TFM for Removals to Hong Kong?

TFM is a member of the British Association of Removers (BAR) and has been shipping goods to Hong Kong for over 35 years. We are proud of our reputation as a friendly, efficient and professional overseas removal company. We always use our own staff to estimate, wrap, pack and load containers, so you can rest assured that anyone who comes to your home will be a full-time employee of TFM. Your shipping paperwork will be prepared by somebody who specialises in overseas removals and deals with shipping lines and agents across the world.

We do not choose our agents on price; we choose them because, like us, they will take care of your goods and keep you informed of the timings of your shipment. Because of our experience with international removals to Hong Kong, we will try to warn you of any pitfalls before your goods are shipped, not afterwards.

Exclusive containers

It is common when moving a great distance internationally to use either a 20 or 40 foot container for exclusive shipping, so your goods are kept extra safe.

Our TFM staff load your belongings themselves into a shipping container that will only carry your items and the container will then be sealed shut. All items will be accounted for in a complete item inventory that is shared with you. Sealed containers are then loaded onto the Hong Kong-bound ship and set off to its destination. Our agent will manage customs and immigration and contact you with a delivery date to your new home.

You can also have your car sent with your household belongings in the container – we will secure your car for shipping and provide comprehensive insurance. If you’d like to arrange for a door-to-door delivery estimation with one of our members of staff, please don’t hesitate to call us on 0800 907 8484.

We can also hold your goods in storage in the UK before shipping to Hong Kong, if required. If you think you may need storage, bear in mind that UK storage may be cheaper than in Hong Kong.

Groupage Containers

At TFM, our experience in shipping groupage containers means we can efficiently and safely ship items to Hong Kong with little fuss. Our groupage service means TFM can ship small quantities of furniture or cartons in a container with consignments from other customers.

Before shipping, our expert team will give you a written quotation based on a list supplied by you or our estimator will visit you to discuss your requirements. We can also pack and wrap your goods ready for shipping and offer comprehensive insurance to keep your goods safe in transport. We will complete a full numbered inventory of the goods you ship, and our agent will contact you when your goods are ready for delivery to you.

How does groupage work?

There are always containers on the ground for each worldwide destination that we ship to, including Hong Kong. TFM and other contractors will bring in consignments, and the cargo is loaded directly into the container that it is going to be shipped in.

Once the container is full, it is returned to port to be loaded onto it’s transport ship. The container will then sail to the destination where our agent will unload it and deliver all of the individual consignments to the customers. Another empty container is collected from the port at the same time and the process is repeated for the next customers moving to Hong Kong.

How long does groupage take?

It depends how much cargo there is at that time of year which will determine how long it takes to fill up the container. Also affecting how long a groupage project will take is how often a ship sails to the destination, the time the ship takes to reach the destination and then the time it takes to have the container released to our agent. Our team will try to give you an indication of time, but apart from the collection of goods the whole process is out of TFM’s control.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pack my own boxes?

You can pack your own boxes, although we advise you do not, shipping requires a different level of packing and a professional touch really is required. Plus, if we pack for you all the items will then be insured, if you pack yourself, an insurance company will not recognise your packing as ‘professional packing’, and will deem contents of boxes uninsured.

What measures are taken to ensure my items are safe?

Every single item of furniture is export wrapped, before it even leaves your home. If you are having a ‘part load’ service each and every item is put to a numbered inventory, which can be ticked off during unloading, and if you are having a ‘FCL’ service a full numbered inventory will still be taken, plus we will seal the back of the container with a customs seal.

Will my items be insured throughout the process?

Yes, we recommend everyone who ships takes us up on the offer of insurance throughout. The cost of this will be clearly detailed on you quotation.

What areas do you cover and where are you based?

Our offices are at Burnham on Crouch, Chelmsford and South Woodham Ferrers, and from these bases we move people from all over Essex, North Kent and East London to most destinations around the world. We specialise in Australia, the USA, New Zealand and Canada.

What is an FCL (Full Container Load)?

This is where you have sole use of a container, you will see the goods loaded to your container, and then you will see the same container unloaded at the other end.

What is a ‘part load’?

This is where you will share a container with other clients being moved to the same worldwide destination. At the other end, our agent will break down all the loads and deliver them all separately.

Can you move antiques and high value art?

We are moving high value items every day, all over the globe. All of our staff are trained in moving clocks, antiques, pianos, barometers and it is the norm for us. When the estimator visits he will note any items such as these that require special attention.

Why use our expert
packing service?

TFM offers a complete wrapping and packing service undertaken by our full-time, fully-trained packing crew. Essential items are left until the morning of your move to avoid disruption to your daily routine. Cartons are always clearly marked with their contents and the destination room. All packing materials are included in the estimate and all your items will be fully insured.
